If you’ve been on the Trim Healthy Mama eating plan for some time you should know what a fantastic resource the Plan Book and Cookbook (pictured above) are and how handy they can be to have on hand. If you haven’t been on the plan for long or are just considering it then make sure you get a copy of these two right away! You can learn a lot in the groups and official THM admin, but you need a solid foundation to start out with and the plan book will help you thoroughly familiarize yourself with this eating plan. Then, you need to be able to have these wonderful recipes at your fingertips by owning the THM Eat Up and Slim Down Cookbook!

Now, About the “me” in Trim Healthy Mama and me:
Over the past 3 years. I’ve made no secret of my thankfulness that the Trim Healthy Mama Eating Plan came into my life when it did, but THM was definitely not my first rodeo, as they say around here. Over the years I’d fallen in and out of respect and admiration for various eating plans. So many diet plans and so little time…that’s pretty much been the story of my adult life. Always looking for a perfect way to eat for maximum health and weight loss or at least maintenance.
I was definitely never a yo-yo dieter, but if an eating plan looked like it might help me and mine begin to feel better and of course control the excess weight gain and/or promote weight loss in a safe healthy way, I was in!
So my poor little ones along with hubby and myself ran through them starting in the 80’s first trying to feel the “hallelujah” and be “fit for life” then, just being free enough to add some low-fat meat in here and there.
In the late 90’s I tried the Atkins diet — and I have no idea why but it gave me kidney pain and gallbladder attacks in the maintenance phase; although we enjoyed all the fat for a change. Then for health reasons, my daughters and I went on a miserable a 12-week sugar-free, yeast-free diet and that was definitely a win in the end but still, we’re starving…. And so back to the comfort eating.
In the early 2000’s I joined the traditional foods movement and will say that this diet was my very favorite up to that time since we didn’t starve for a change…. but the pounds….they crept up and up….. Until I just couldn’t do it anymore.
Please don’t think I’m knocking any of these approaches; if they work for you I’m so glad and I think that every single one of them can be the way to go if you’re trying to correct problems in the short term that have been caused by long term over-eating and abuse of certain food groups.
Why Trim Healthy Mama?
With the exception of the traditional diet, all of the plans I’ve mentioned lead down the same road long-term, at least on a limited scale, some more and some less. Full or partial starvation of at least one of the essential nutrient sources, and whether or not we understand why we’re there we mostly all know where that starvation road leads; uncontrollable CRAVINGS that can only be satisfied by quitting the diet in failure. I am here to tell you that you did not fail those diets, THEY FAILED YOU!
I’m certainly no expert but from all that I have ever known or read the body needs these six nutrients to be supplied in the diet on a regular basis in order for us to thrive. Protein, Carbohydrates, Minerals, Vitamins, Fats, and Water. Although the body will have a brief adjustment period when you switch to any new eating plan; when the Trim Healthy Mama plan is properly followed according to the plan book that the authors have written, I have found that the physiological cravings will become totally non-existent.
I believe that the reason Trim Healthy Mama is able to exceed all other diets in providing a framework where we can enjoy total food control (food freedom) if we really choose to do so, is because physiological cravings are satisfied.
Another thing that is HUGE to a crusader like me is that THM has also introduced so many people to the ideals of intentionally eating and really enjoying super foods on a regular or even daily basis. As a person who owned most of the ingredients before starting this diet, I am beyond delighted that they have shown me the way to use those ingredients in ways I was just never going to figure out on my own.
What this fantastic Trim Healthy Mama cookbook and the many THM Friendly bloggers helping develop recipes following the THM plan are aiming to help do is to present wonderful recipes, based on this eating plan which will satisfy the physiological needs in a delicious and satisfying way. Just as importantly though is to provide foods to help quench the psychological longings for the type foods that we have always enjoyed so much and still want to enjoy while remaining true to this fantastic eating plan. If we and our precious families are to remain faithful to this plan for life it will take a wide variety of recipes and is one big job!
It is an exciting honor for me to be able to continue to create new recipes and convert my family favorites, some of which have been handed down for generations, over to the THM eating pla and I’m so glad to be able to be a small part of promoting this plan because I believe that Trim Healthy Mama has the potential to be, if it is not already, the single most, family-friendly and sustainable, delivery of nutritional density information out there today.
